England started the day with a positive mindset, but they lost their first wicket early. Zak Crawley and Joe Root then put on a partnership of 91 runs, but once again, wickets fell in quick succession, and England was reduced to 170/6. Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood then put on a partnership of 66 runs to give England some hope of a win. However, Wood was dismissed for 29, and Robinson followed him back to the pavilion soon after for a well-made 42. England was eventually bowled out for 275, with Southee picking up three wickets for 84 runs.
